Cody James Jess

Cody James Jess is a shareholder at Moyes, Sellers & Hendricks Ltd. His practice focuses on complex commercial litigation, business law, creditors’ rights, and general counsel services. Mr. Jess represents businesses, individuals, shareholders, members, officers, and directors in multifaceted commercial disputes, including prosecuting and defending breach of contract, fraud, business tort, business divorce, employment, and intellectual property claims to finality in state, federal, bankruptcy, and appellate courts, arbitrations, and mediations. Mr. Jess is routinely sought out in high stakes, “bet the company” litigation.

Mr. Jess also serves as outside general counsel to businesses ranging from startups to well-established companies with annual revenues exceeding $100,000,000, where he counsels his business clients on matters ranging from secured transactions to restrictive covenant agreements. High net worth individuals and families turn to Mr. Jess for guidance in various matters, including the protection and preservation of generational wealth.

As part of his creditors’ rights practice, Mr. Jess prosecutes and defends receiverships, advises on prejudgment remedies, conducts post-judgment enforcement and collection, and represents secured and unsecured creditors in Chapters 7, 11, 15, and Subchapter V of the United States Bankruptcy Code. Mr. Jess conducts all manner of bankruptcy litigation, including prosecuting and defending preference actions, fraudulent transfer claims, challenges to bankruptcy filing, discharge, plan confirmation, cash collateral, financing, and acquisitions.

Mr. Jess has been selected by Super Lawyers® since 2012, was selected as one of the Best Lawyers in America® in 2021 and 2022, and was recently named as one of Paradise Valley’s Top Attorneys in 2024. Mr. Jess graduated as a Willard H. Pedrick Scholar from the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law at Arizona State University in 2006.
